Myrskyluodon Maija is the story of a strong woman and the challenges she faces on a storm-swept island. The film, based on Anni Blomqvist’s novel of the same name, is set in the Finnish archipelago in the 19th century. At just 17, Maija is married against her will to fisherman Janne. Life on Myrskyluoto is harsh: as a fisherman’s wife, she must endure her husband’s long absences at sea and raise their family alone.
Over time, Maija grows into a resilient and independent woman who refuses to be defeated by the barren archipelago. Despite hardships, Maija and Janne share a deep connection — a love that strengthens as the years pass. Janne respects his wife’s transformation and understands that their family’s survival depends on shared effort.
Myrskyluodon Maija is a story of willpower, resilience, and love.
