MYRSKYLUODON MAIJA is a story of a strong woman and the challenges she faces on a stormy island. The film is based on Anni Blomqvist’s novel of the same name and takes place in the Finnish coastal region of the 19th century. Young 17-year-old Maija gets married against her will to fisherman Janne. Her life on Myrskyluoto island is full of challenges and adversities: as a fisherman’s wife, she has to cope with her husband’s long absences at sea and raise her family alone. However, Maija has grown into a strong-willed and independent woman, who is not afraid to tackle the barren archipelago. Maija and Janne have a strong connection, and a love that has deepened over time. Janne supports his wife’s changes and understands that the strength of the family comes from joint efforts.
Myrskyluoto Maija is a story about will, strength and love.
